Synopsis:

By Baztán River, at the Navarra valley, the naked body of a teenage girl is found under circumstances that associates the case with a murder that occurred a month before, around the same area. Homicide Inspector from the Foral Police Department, Amaia Salazar, will run the investigation, which will take her back to Elizondo, a small town where she grew up, and has tried to run away from her whole life. Facing more and more complications on this case, and her own personal ghosts, Amaia’s investigation is a race against time, in order to find a killer who can show the scariest face of a brutal reality, and at the same time, convene the most disturbing beings from the legends of the north.

Review:

I have never heard of these books before… My brother and sister in law gave me this trilogy for my birthday. I was already reading two books those days, but I couldn’t wait and started reading the first book of the trilogy: The Invisible Guardian.

I really enjoyed this police thriller, and the fact that the author combines the case with mythology, and the main character’s traumatic past. I personally loved this combination, I like supernatural stories, and I love to read about legends and beliefs that cultures from all over the world have, so this reading was awesome for me. The book got me hooked from beginning to end. Getting to know a bit from the Baztán Valley was so great, that I would love to visit the place someday. Dolores Redondo’s writing was quite enjoyable; dialogs were short and concise, which was refreshing.

I’ve already started the second book; and I’ll let you know my thoughts about it, but so far so good.

When I finished reading the first book, I wanted to read a few reviews and share some opinions, but I was surprised to see that many of them were quite negative… So all I can tell you is that I am very glad I did not read them before I started the book! If you don’t like police thrillers, mixed with supernatural aspects, then this book is not for you. I know many people who dislike these kind of books, and it’s fine! Not everyone likes the same thing, right? …Me, for instance, I can’t read books about war, Nazis and related things. I can’t emotionally deal with those kind of tragedies, and I can’t watch movies about that either. I am sure there are excellent books about that matter, but is not my thing…

So tell me, What literary genre you avoid at all costs?
