Como les había contado alguna vez, hace ya poco más de un año, empezamos una hermosa aventura: creamos un Club de Lectura.
As I mentioned once before, a little over a year ago, we started a wonderful adventure: we created a Reading Club.
El primer día, fuimos 4 amigas adictas a la lectura, las comprometidas a formar parte de un club, en el que leeríamos un libro por mes, y nos reuniríamos la última semana para hablar del mismo. Ahora somos 21 amantes de la lectura, y déjenme decirles, ¡qué maravillosa experiencia! Es fascinante y enriquecedor escuchar tan diversas opiniones sobre un libro. Cuando la reunión termina, tu visión sobre el libro leído ya no es la misma.
De los 11 libros que leímos en el club este año, 4 fueron mis favoritos:
It started with 4 friends, reading addicts, committed to be part of a club, in which we would read one book per month, and get together the last week to talk about it. Now we are 21 reading lovers, and let me tell you, what a wonderful experience! It is fascinating and enriching to listen to so many different opinions about one book. When the meeting ends, your vision about that book is not the same anymore.
From the 11 books we read at Book Club this year, 4 were my favorite:
La Chica del Tren, Paula Hawkins
He leído muchas quejas sobre este libro, la mayoría por lo retorcidos que son cada uno de sus personajes, y porque ninguno de ellos aporta nada positivo, a nada. A mí me gustó mucho La Chica del Tren. Es verdad, todos los personajes tienen secretos retorcidos, pero me impactó mucho la vida de Rachel. Entrar en la mente de un alcohólico(a), y leer el día a día de esta mujer… me impactó. En la reunión del club, a todas les impactó mucho este thriller psicológico. Fue la reunión que más concurrencia tuvo, y dio muchos temas de qué hablar.
The Girl on the Train, Paula Hawkins
I’ve read many complains about this book, most of them because the characters are all twisted, and because none of them contributes anything positive, at all. I liked this book a lot. It’s true, all the characters have twisted secrets, but I was quite shocked about Rachel’s life. Being inside the mind of an alcoholic, and to read the day by day life of this woman… It had an impact on me. At the club’s meeting, all the girls were shocked by this psychological thriller. It was the meeting with more assisting members, and we had many things to comment about.
Mierda en mis Tacones, Lorena Pacheco
¡No tienen idea cómo me divertí con este libro! Leer esta comedia romántica fue un deleite. Los protagonistas me encantaron, y ni se diga los personajes secundarios, ¡adorables! Me gustó tanto el estilo de Lorena Pacheco, que enseguida leí otro de sus libros, y ya estoy por leer el tercero. Es más, ahora soy muy fan suya, ¡es divina! Muy recomendado este libro si quieren divertirse mucho, ¡es encantador! En la reunión del club, todos los comentarios fueron positivos y divertidos, para todas fue muy refrescante leerlo después de haber leído temas un poco intensos, así que fue una reunión de risas y de relajación total 😀
Mierda en mis Tacones, Lorena Pacheco
I don’t know if there’s an English version of this book, but you have no idea how much fun I had reading it! This romantic comedy was a true delight to read. I loved the main characters, and the secondary characters: adorable! I liked so much Lorena Pacheco’s style, that I read another one of her books right away, and I’m about to read the third one. Actually, I’m a big fan of hers, she’s awesome! I recommend this book if you want to have a lot of fun, it’s lovely! At the club’s meeting, all comments were positive and fun. It was very refreshing for all of us to read it, especially after reading a few intense books, so it was a very fun and relaxing meeting 😀
Las Piadosas, Federico Andahazi
Contra todo pronóstico, disfruté mucho este libro. Me habían advertido que era un poco fuerte y desagradable (concuerdo un poco con eso); pero esta novela gótica, que mezcla ficción con personajes históricos, es fascinante. El estilo de escritura de Federico Andahazi es exquisito, y me tuvo enganchada hasta el final. Me recordó mucho (y transportó) a esas historias de terror antiguas, como esas películas blanco y negro de los años 30. Ya compré dos más de sus obras que espero leer pronto. La reunión del club sobre este libro fue muy variada, diría que la mitad lo disfrutó, y la otra mitad lo detestó. Así que es uno de esos libros que vale la pena que leas y saques tus propias conclusiones.
The Merciful Women, Federico Andahazi
Against all odds, I enjoyed this book a lot. Some warned me that it was quite unpleasant (I can’t totally disagree with that), but this gothic novel that combines fiction with historical characters, is fascinating. Andahazi’s writing style is exquisite, I couldn’t stop reading it. It reminded me (and transported me) to those old horror stories, like those black and white movies from the 30’s. I already bought two more of his books which I hope to read soon. At the club’s meeting, opinions were varied, I would say, half of them enjoyed it, half hated it. So is one of those books worth reading so you can get your own conclusions.
La Biblioteca de los Muertos, Glenn Cooper
Este thriller involucra a un asesino en serie, una conspiración y un misterio histórico-religioso. Con esa descripción yo ya estaba loca por leerlo. Está relatado en tres diferentes épocas, y quedé fascinada desde el principio. Me encantan este tipo de novelas; está tan bien escrita, que realmente no podía dejar de leerlo. Este es el primero de una saga de 3 libros, espero tener pronto los otros dos, y llegar al desenlace de esta historia fascinante llena de misterio. En la reunión del club, sin embargo, no hubo la misma emoción que tuve yo. Solo a dos chicas nos fascinó este libro, las demás no lo terminaron, no se sintieron atraídas por la trama. Esta es una novela al estilo El Código Da Vinci, así que, si te gustó ese libro, te va a encantar este.
Library of the Dead, Glenn Cooper
This thriller combines a serial killer, a religious-historical mystery, and a conspiracy. Only with that description, I was crazy to read it. It takes place in three different periods of time, and I was hooked from the start. I love this kind of novels; it’s so well written, that I couldn’t put it down. This is the first of a three-books’ saga, I’ll try to get the other two soon and see how this fascinating story ends. At the club’s meeting, however, I couldn’t find the excitement I had. Only two of us loved it, the others couldn’t finish it. They weren’t attracted to the story. This novel has a Da Vinci Code style, so if you loved that book, you’ll love this one.
