First of all:

Memories of the AlhambraThis review has no spoilers.

I think you should know that this is my second K-drama review, the first one is my beloved Crash Landing on You. I started watching k-dramas about a year ago and I love them! Korean dramas are unique in many ways, and I talk a bit about that on my last review, above mentioned.

Memories of the Alhambra is not a new drama, it was distributed by Netflix and released on December, 2018. But, despite that, I really wanted to post my review about it, because it really caught my attention.

Besides, now that the world is facing quarantine due to COVID-19 and we all must remain inside our homes, this might be a good drama for you to watch.

*By the way, remember to keep yourself and your family safe by staying home and listening only to official information like local Government and the WHO.

Synopsis:

Memories of the AlhambraAfter receiving a mysterious call regarding a groundbreaking AR game (Augmented Reality) about medieval battles in Alhambra, Yoo Jin-woo, CEO of an investment company that specializes in optical devices, travels to Granada, Spain to meet the creator of the game, Jung Se-joo. However, Se-joo is missing and there he meets his sister Jung Hee-jo, owner of the hotel he stays in, and a former guitarist. Both get entangled in mysterious incidents, and the border between the real world and the AR world built by Se-joo begins to blur. (Source: Wikipedia)

Why do I recommend Memories of the Alhambra?

The Plot

Memories of the AlhambraI have to admit that it took me a while to choose this drama on Netflix. I was not attracted to the synopsis shown on the screen, so I always chose something else first.

The night I finally decided to give it a shot, I ended up with my mouth opened. I just had no idea it was a sci-fi-like thriller with an amazing plot that I have never seen before in these dramas!

I am not a gamer, and still found the plot awesome. It kept me hooked all the way to the end. Yes, it gets a little bit slow sometimes, it happens with many k-dramas, but it’s their style and I have no complains on that, really.

You should know, that there is a love story, but don’t expect the story to be full romance. There is a bigger picture here that you will enjoy for sure.

I will not give you my opinion about the ending because I don’t want to give you any spoilers. I loved the plot, that’s all I can tell you. Now, you might get a little confused with the story at some point, it happened to me a couple of times, but it didn’t stop me from enjoying it altogether.

The production

This drama is so well made. The special effects are amazing, the actors’ performances are excellent. The fighting scenes are awesome. Locations are beautiful. I have to point out Hyun Bin’s acting on this drama because it’s outstanding. Well, he is an amazing actor, but when you’ll see this drama you will realize how WOW he is.

So, in general terms, thumbs up to the amazing cast and crew!

The Locations

Memories of the Alhambra was shot in Granada, Madrid, Barcelona and Girona in Spain; Budapest, Hungary; Slovenia and South Korea.

Locations are so beautiful! European architecture is my weakness, I just adore it! So, this drama was a real joy for me to watch.

When I came back from Europe last year, I decided to go to Spain next time, which was one of the countries I didn’t visit, but after watching MOTA, I definitely wanted to rush into it. Of course, after the world goes back to normal, I will go back to planning.

The OST

I am a huge fan of soundtracks; I am actually a collector, I am talking about the instrumental music. This drama has an amazing OST, I LOVE IT. The variety of action music, thrilling music, plus the combination of local Spanish music, is awesome. I have that playlist in Spotify and I listen to it all the time, specially when I read or write. The songs from different artists are also pretty good!

My favorite song was not exactly created for this drama but it’s part of the story, it is a song called Memories of the Alhambra, composed by the Spanish composer Francisco Tárrega (1852-1909), and it’s one of the main components of the drama. You can listen to it here.

As for the OST, my favorite instrumental song is this one, and from songs with lyrics, my favorite is this one. Aren’t they awesome!?

A little ending note:

Usually reviews talk a lot about the main actors and their previous work. All actors in this drama do an amazing job. That is one of the appeals in K-dramas, their commitment and professionalism. But I rather write about the production in general. I’d like you to think about watching it because it is a good production and it will keep you on the edge of your sit.

The fact that Hyun Bin is in it, is the cherry on the cake!

Thank you!, you have given us an excellent opinion, very deserved for this great drama, for me it is still the drama where Hyun Bin has achieved one of his best performances, it was his return after several years without seeing him do kdramas, and it was wonderful to return to to see him in that character, so mature, so suffered and so attractive. I repeat, I love your posts, and your cakes😊
