First things first

The following review has no spoilers.

Vincenzo has ended.

I will miss this series, my husband and I had lots of fun watching it. We watched two episodes a week, which was torture, but it has its bright side, we waited eagerly for the next couple of episodes.

The plot related to the Italian mafia turned out to be very surprising (positively). The series has comedy, but the drama/mafia side is the highlight, and it is my favorite side of it, it gives you goosebumps.

When I started watching Vincenzo, I didn’t imagine it was going to have a high level of comedy, because the first episode is developed in Italy, and to see Vincenzo in action leaves you mouth opened. So, when he arrives to Korea and the comedy part starts, I must admit that I was a bit disappointed because I didn’t expect it. However, a couple of episodes later, I got used to the idea and enjoyed it.

That is why I consider important to warn you that Vincenzo has two sides: one is drama, crime and action, which is my favorite part; and the other, is comedy, which you will also enjoy.

Vincenzo is a Korean series of 20 episodes, released on February 20 2021.

Synopsis

An Italian family adopts Park Joo-hyung when he was 8 years old. Years later, he becomes Vincenzo Cassano, a lawyer who works as consigliere for the Italian mafia.

Vincenzo Kdrama review

After the death of his Italian father, there is conflict inside the family, so he decides to leave it all behind and go back to Korea in order to fulfill a personal mission; his plan after the mission is to travel far from both countries and live a quiet and happy life.

Things get complicated when he gets involved with a huge conglomerate in Korea, and he has no choice but to interfere in his own way.

In general terms

Vincenzo is one of my favorite series of 2021. I am not a complicated person concerning Kdramas, but I have to admit that there were some dramas this year that I could not watch past the first or second episode. I won’t tell you which dramas are, because many people loved them; but to me, they just didn’t “click”, so I left them behind.

The first episode, which took place in Italy, was awesome. It is so well made, the landscapes, the actors, the dialogs, everything was spectacular. Song Joong-ki speaking in Italian leaves you mouth opened, and your heart: boom boom!

Korean productions are definitely another level; when they want to produce something, it is not half way, and this drama is no exception.

Why do I recommend Vincenzo?

The plot

The story involves the mafia, law, judges, corruption, murder, which is the serious part, you could say. The plot takes some exciting turns, and what makes the turn of events unique, is the mastermind of an Italian gangster (Vincenzo). That is what I loved the most about this drama.

The main characters

The main character, Vincenzo, is obviously my favorite. His personality is awesome. He is a good person and has a good heart, but growing up inside a gangster family made him lethal.

Each time he speaks in Italian, or says a quote according to a situation, he looks so awesome. Imagine when he plans an attack. However, his sweet side does exist, it is hidden somewhere, and when you get to see it, he looks divine.

Hong Cha-young is a lawyer with a strong personality who works for a powerful law firm. I didn’t like her at all at first, but I think the character was created to have that effect on people. After getting to know her more, you start to like her. She makes a good pair with Vincenzo in the professional area, and little by little in a more personal way. They have good chemistry.

The villains

The antagonists in this drama are unbelievable! They really inspire fear.

First, there is Babel’s owner, a huge and powerful conglomerate. This person, whom you will get to know little by little, is scary. He definitely has a psychological problem and is very dangerous. I will not give you his name because that would be a spoiler, but his acting is spectacular.

The other antagonist is Lawyer Choi Myung-hee. This woman is very dangerous and gives me the goosebumps; apparently she is nice, but no!

The locations

I fell in love with the Italian locations, which I should mention, were all CGI. Which means, Song Joong-ki was never in Italy, everything was computer-generated. However, locations, Italian actors and sceneries are beautiful. I loved them all.

Vincenzo’s style

Everything about Vincenzo is divine and his clothing is no exception. He looks impeccable in every moment. His main accessory is a golden lighter, and every time he plays with it, uf! It means he is about to do something big and there is no turning back.

The OST

The music is excellent; it has an Italian vibe that I love. The soundtrack and the score are both awesome. My favorite songs are Lacrimosa, by La Poem; you can listen to it on this YouTube link. The other one is Adrenaline (Italian version); by Aalia, you can listen to it on this YouTube link.

A little ending note

Vincenzo is pure adrenaline and excitement from start to finish, so I highly recommend it. About the turn of events, and the ending, all I can tell you is that I loved it. Vincenzo is the best antihero I have seen in a long time.

If you already watched it, I’d love to know your opinion!

Xoxo,

MJ
